Gerry and Richard have accommodated myself and my Husband many times at Grail Haven in France. It is easy to book, and the place is rich in its unique character and beauty. The rooms are all furnished very nicely, and are comfortable and quiet. There is a remarkable labyrinth in the garden for contemplation built from ancient stone. You can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful sunset in the Languedoc.
Local Castle
Grail Haven was located in the small Hilltop village of Escales between the ancient cities of Carcassonne and Narbonne on the Camino pilgrimage route.
Escales history can be traced back to the time of the ancient Greeks
A medieval tower overlooks the village and in the centre there is a Romanesque Church built over an ancient spring. Inside the Church you will find a unique 2nd century altar constructed from sections of a Roman sarcophagus.

The Canal du Midi (a World Heritage site) flows 5 kms away as does the River Aude.
Grail Haven was in the very centre of “ Cathar Country” with many ancient and stunningly picturesque castle sanctuaries to explore.
The area is well known for its sacred sites attributed to Mary Magdalene and the Knights Templar which were made famous by the ‘Da Vinci Code’.
The Mediterranean Sea is only 30 kms away with its beautiful and safe beaches.
Escales is situated within the largest wine producing area of the world, a popular place for wine tasting tours.
The Grail Haven Labyrinth was constructed using terracotta tiles reclaimed from the 7th century Abbey of Lagrasse.
